he trip to Vienna was so successful . . .

. . . that soon after they returned to Salzburg, Papa planned another trip to go out and seek their fortunes. They travelled about Europe for nearly 3 years.

One of Wolfie's favorite places was Italy, especially the city of Venice where people floated in gondolas through the water-filled streets called canals. It seemed like everyone sang in Venice. From the street vendors to the gondoliers, there was music in the air.

Oh, how he loved Italy, this land of blue skies and song! He heard that in Rome the music was even more special. Rome was the home of the Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, and in his private chapel he had the finest singers in the country.
